The feature race at Saratoga today is a huge one. The Alabama for three year old fillies is one of the biggest races not only of the Saratoga meet, but in the country for the girls. Yesterday on ESPN Radio I heard well known handicapper Anthony Stabile say that if he owned a three year old fillie he would be more excited about winning the Alabama than the Kentucky Oaks.
This year's Alabama is billed as a showdown between superstar horses Nest and Secret Oath. Nest is the 1-2 morning line favorite for Todd Pletcher and won the Coaching Club American Oaks at The Spa on July 23rd. D.Wayne Lucas saddled Secret Oath, 4-1 on the morning line and the winner of the Kentucky Oaks, the fillie equivalent of the Kentucky Derby held on the Friday of derby weekend.
Gerrymander is coming off a win in the Mother Goose and should also not be discounted.
I think Secret Oath will bounce back now that she is settled in at Saratoga. I cannot play a horse with the odds of Nest as their is no value there. I will go with Secret Oath to get it done in the Alabama.
