Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.

Granville Edges North Warren to End Losing Streak

After not being able to record a win last year despite being competitive, the Granville girls soccer team was able to snap a long losing streak by edging North Warren 2-1 in Adirondack League action.

The Golden Horde played a strong first half, but the Cougars dominated play in the second.

Hannah Ingleston scored a pair of first half goals to give Granville a 2-0 lead at halftime and the Golden Horde held on the rest of the way.

"I told them score first and score often," Granville coach Cathy Kilby said. "We didn't score often, but we scored enough."

Nicole Buckman scored to cut the lead in half for North Warren in the second half.

Kiera Rice was oustanding in goal for Granville. Rice was under heavy pressure in the closing minutes. She stopped a direct kick from 25 yards out and another Cougar chance at point-blank range.

Aspen Williams played well on defense for Granville, while Laura Arnhold did a good job of controlling the midfield.

Ruth Briar also was stellar in goal for North Warren.

"She's a good goalie," Kilby praised. "We could have scored a lot that goalie. She owned the box tonight."

Granville is 1-1. North Warren is 0-2.
