Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.
It was Senior Day at Dean Houghton Field in Poultney, and the Blue Devils were hoping to cool off a Mill River team that came in seemigly peaking at the right time. Poultney put up a valiant fight, but in the end the Minutemen always had the answer as they came away with a 26-18 win.
It was the third win in their last four outings for Mill River.
It is unknown whether Keegan Greeley is related to Poultney's most well-known former resident Horace Greeley, but like his namesake he was very influential, in this game anyway. Greeley had three interceptions on the day for Mill River to hel the minutement hang on to their lead.
Taite Capman gave Poultney the 6-0 lead on a fourth down quarterback keeper.
Anthony Cavalieri tossed an 18-yard TD pass to Connor Lopiccolo to bring the Minutement even.
Mill River came back to score again on a Ross Badgley 1-yard run and conversion pass from Cavalieri to Lopiccolo to make it 14-6.
The Blue Devils pulled within 14-12 after a 6-yard scoring pass from Capman to Mason Boudreau.
Back-to-back scores made things more comfortable for Mill River. Touchdown runs by Adam Shum and another by Badgley made it 26-12 Minutemen.
A 7-yard TD pass from Capman to Bradley Dupell cut the deficit to eight, but Poultney couldn't get any closer.
Kyle McGinnis had an interception late in the fourth quarter when Poultney was driving to clinch it for Mill River.
Nolan Geno recovered a fumble for Poultney. Clayton Kessop had an interception.
Poultney is now 1-7 and will face #1 Windsor in the Division III playoffs next weekend.
Mill River is 3-5 and will face Otter Valley in the playoffs next week.
