Border Country Sports Blog-November 4th

Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.

Proctor Rolls into Vermont Division IV Final

The only thing that seems as certain as turning our clocks back on a Saturday in early November is the Proctor girls soccer team reaching the Vermont Division IV Championship game. The Phantoms punched their ticket to the final for the 11th year in a row as they rolled past MSJ 7-0 Wednesday at Taranovich Field.

Proctor is the two-time defending state champion and will vie for their third consecutive crown Saturday against Arlington at Applejack Stadium in Manchester.

Arlington advanced to the championship match after topping Rivendell 3-1 on PKs.

This was the third meeting between the two teams this season. Proctor edged the Mounties 3-2 in the first meeting, and then cruised past MSJ 10-0 in the initial rematch. This game more resembled the latter.

Maggie McKearin began the scoring for the Phantoms when she scored at the 22 minute mark. It was the first of three goals for McKearin on the afternoon.

Isabel Greb extended the Proctor lead to 2-0 off and assist from Emma Palmer.

The Phantoms hit the back of the net two more times before the break. Palmer scored with eight minutes left in the half. Then Greb connected for her second tally with less than two minutes remaining to make it 4-0.

Greb scored early in the second half to complete her hat trick to make it 5-0.

McKearin then scored two more times to record a hat trick of her own. There have been multiple games this year where the Phantoms have had multiple players with three goals or more.

Angel Traverse earned the shutout in goal for Proctor.

MSJ ends the season 10-4-2.

Proctor is now 15-0.

Lake George Defeats Scots to Move to Class D Volleyball Final

The Lake George volleyball team continued their quest for perfection Wednesday evening. The Warriors remained unbeaten on the season with a 3-1 victory over Adirondack League rival Argyle in the Section II Class D semifinals at Ballston Spa High School.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-13, 23-25, 25-6.

After winning the first two sets Lake George dropped a set to the Scots. However, the Warriors used it as wake up call and came storming back to post a dominant performance in the fourth and final set.

Maddie Burke had 36 digs for Lake George. Ella Fox had 22 kills.

Evie Burke had 17 assists for the Warriors. Shannon Starratt contributed 16 assists.

#2 Lake George is now 18-0 on the season and will meet #1 seed Galway in the championship match Saturday at 5 p.m. at Saratoga High School. Galway is 15-0.

Argyle ends the season 13-5.

Galway defeated #4 Hartford in the other semfinal 3-0.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-13, and 25-10.
