Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.
Today is a big day for high school baseball and softball teams on the New York side of the border as the Section II playoff pairings will be announced. Teams who need to play in the play-in round will find out who and where they will be playing, then head out to the field or hop on a bus to open the tournament this afternoon. Should be fun! I always love sectional time.
Good luck to all of our Adirondack League teams!

Today is Monday and of course that means the Monday Monday Morning Hot List, my look at who was "Hot" this week in local high school sports.
-The Adirondack League championship games were held on Friday. Congratulations to this year's champions. The Lake George Warriors in baseball and the Whitehall Railroaders in softball. Hadley-Luzerne claimed the ADK tennis title.
-A shout out to Samantha Howland of Whitehall track and field. Howland set a new school record this week in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.0 seconds. Congrats Samantha. Howland also had a strong showing for the Railroaders in Jack Irion Invitational at Queensbury. Howland won the triple jump event at the meet.
-Speakiing of milestones, Granville pitcher Lauren Bascom hit the 100 strikeout mark for the season in Friday's loss to Warrensburg in the ADK Tournament consolation game.
-While we are on the subject of Bascom, the Granville sophomore and Lake George junior Shannon Starratt hooked up in a classic pitching matchup in the ADK semifinals. Starratt's Warriors came away with a 2-1 win in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh in a contest between two of the area's top pitchers.
-It was yet another banner week for Whitehall softball pitcher Madi Gould as she reeled off four consecutve wins. On Monday Gould fired a 2-hitter and struck out 14 against Salem. In a non-leaue game against Hudson Falls Gould spun a one-hitter and recorded 12 Ks. In the ADK semifinals against Warrensburg Gould pitched a 3-hitter with 12 Ks. In the title game Gould gave up a home run in the first but went on to toss a 3-hitter with 15 strikeouts.
-Fair Haven baseball pitcher Carson Babbie pitched a gem of a game in the Slater's 9-0 win over Division I power Brattleboro. Babbie tossed a two-hit shutout with five Ks.
-The Poultney softball team is putting up runs seemingly at will as of late. In wins over Burr and Burton and Twin Valley the Blue Devils totaled a whopping 41 runs.
-Kaylah Bennett of Poultney had an impressive week. Bennett was 3 for 4 with seven RBIs in the win over Burr and Burton. Bennett also had four hits against Twin Valley.
-Alonah Olden had a huge game for Warrensburg in a 12-5 win over Granville in the ADK softball consolation game. Olden went 5 for 5 at the plate in the contest.
-Raeghan Liebig of Hartford-Fort Edward softball a career day in an ADK crossover game win over North Warren. Liebig was 5 for 5 at the plate with two doubles and five RBIs for H-FE. She also was the winning pitcher, striking out nine.
-It is rare to see a seventh grader playing at the varsity level. It is absolutley impressive to see such a young player on the bump in a key moment. 12 year old seventh grader Stephen Yakubec of Salem-Cambridge pitched the last two innings and earned the save in is team's ADK semifinal win over Granville. Yakubec also had two hits and three RBIs. Just a couple of days earlier Yakubec was playing in a 12u travel ball game for the Northeast Hurricanes.
-Argyle has a rising star in the softball pitchiung circle. Maddy Eldred spun a one-hitter with five Ks as the Scots shutout a very good Salem team 3-0 in an Adirondack League crossover game.
- Olivia Whiting and Vinna Jensen both blasted home runs in Whitehall softball's semifinal win over Warrensburg.
-Lake George might have fell to Whitehall in the ADK championship game, but Olivia Gates got the Warriors out to a 2-0 win with a two-run blast over the left field fence to batters into the game.
-Mattison Stark had the big hit of the game when she doubled in the bottom of the seventh to lift Lake George over Granville 2-1 in the ADK semifinals. Stark's hit drove in Evie Burke with the winning run.
