Vermont North/South Softball Classic Tonight
All roads lead to Castleton University this afternoon as the Vermont North-South All-Star Softball Classic returns to action for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic. If you are looking to spend a summer evening watching some of the best high school softball players in the Green Mounatain this event is for you.
The three hame series features the top recently graduated seniors, several from the Border Country Sports area. A pair of seven-inning games will be contested this afternoon starting at 4 p.m. A nine-inning game will be played tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Border Country Sports softball all-stars playing for the South team include Olivia Almeida, a shortstop and third baseman Mercedes Cathcart from Fair Haven, Marissa Connors, second base; Riley Keith, pitcher fromOtter Valley, catcher Kaylah Bennett from Poultney, Laci French, infield/outfield from Proctor, and Alyssa Kennedy, third base/outfield; Samera Rideout, shortstop; and Tamara Sabotka, first base from Rutland.
The team will be coached by Bill Jones and Wally Fabian of Fair Haven, along with Tony Lamberton of Poultney.
The rest of the South team ncludes: Leah Madore, pitcher; Brittney Wright, catcher of Brattleboro, Kimberly Cummings, first base/outfield from Green Mountain, Ari Cioffi, second base; Isabella Belisle, pitcher from Springfield, Audrey Tembreull, shortstop/outfield from Vergennes, Karen Kapuscinski, infield/outfield; Megan Holling, outfield; Peyton Richardson, outfield/infield from Windsor.
The North squad is made up BFA-St. Albans: Cadence Moore, catcher. Champlain Valley: Sophia Stevens, first base. Colchester: Chloe Palmer, third base/pitcher. Danville: Rylie Cadieux, third base; Ava Marshia, catcher/outfield. Enosburg: Dana Elkins pitcher; Emma Keelty, catcher. Essex: Cailey Appenzeller, outfield; Grace Cook, shortstop; Emilyrose Mercier, pitcher. Lyndon: Brydie Barton, outfield; Emma Newland second base; Isabelle Priest, outfield; Natalie Tenney, catcher. Missisquoi: Alexandra Brouillette, shortstop. St. Johnsbury: Taylor Farnsworth second base; Adrianna Lemieux catcher; Delaney Rankin, pitcher/first base.
There is still time to pack up the family and head to Castleton University for some great softball action.
