Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.
It is great to be back after a couple of days off for the Christmas Holiday. I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas day with your families. I braved the ice and snow to drive to my brother and sister in laws in New Hampshire. It was a little hair-raising at times, but we made it safe and sound. It was well worth it to spend time with family and we had a wonderful day.
Today is Monday of course, and it is time for another edition of the "Monday Morning Hot List," a look at who was "Hot" this week in local high school sports.
--I was in the house this week in Granville for a couple of great hot list moments as the Golden Horde swept Lake George. In the girls game what a performance by Melissa Beaver, the sophomore point guard for the Golden Horde. Beaver recorded a double-double with 12 points and an incredible 13 steals in a win over the Warriors.
--On the boys side Nathan Rathbun did play a ton of minutes for Granville, but was the key to the Golden Horde win. Rathbun hit a clutch 3-pointer to hand Granville the lead late in the contest. Then went to the other end a drew a charge on defense to help earn the Golden Horde a key ADK victory.
--Even though his team came up short Cameron Orr had an outstanding game against Granville for his Lake George Warriors. Orr who came in averaging a little over 21 points per game and coming off games of 25 and 24 poured in 34 points for Lake George against the Golden Horde.
--Another shout to Fair Haven coach Bob Prenevost who earned his 500th career win this week. Prenevost's career has spanned 42 years, 22 with the Slaters.
--Speaking of the Slaters and the historic win for Coach Prenevost, not only did his grandson Sawyer Ramey present him with the game ball, the Fair Haven point guard played a significant role in the win. Ramey scored 27 points including five 3-pointers.
--Mill River's Nate Hoague had a huge game in the Minutemen's 76-38 win over West Rutland. Hoague nailed four 3-pointers in the first quarter alone and went on to score 29 points on the night. Hoague finished the game with seven treys.
--The Fair Haven wrestling team continued to have a strong start to the season this week. The Slaters traveled to Manchester and swept dual meets against the Bulldogs, Granville and Mill River. Fair Haven beat Mill River 36-18, Granville 33-24 and Burr and Burton 42-11.
--The Hartford girls basketball team remained unbeaten on the season as they handled Whitehall 55-46 in a matchup of teams who came in without a loss. Gabrielle McFarren scored 19 points and Karlee Nims added 16 for the Tanagers who are now 7-0.
--Speaking of unbeaten ADK girls basketball teams, Corinth stayed perfect with a win over Hadley-Luzerne 56-28. Our POTW for this week on the girls' side, Maddie DeLisle led the Tomahawks with 28 points and Emily Dingmon added 18. Corinth is now 7-0.
--Our boys' POTW this week is Cash Burgey of the Whitehall boys. Burgey helped lead the Railroaders to a fourth quarter rally to defeat Hartford.
