Lake George Sweeps Hartford Out of Volleyball Playoffs

By Keith Harrington

The Hartford volleyball team knew they had a tall task in front of them on Friday evening. The Tanagers were facing a Lake George team that was not only unbeaten and only dropped one set all season, but they had lost a pair of matches to the Warriors.

The young, rebuilding Tanagers did not go down without a fight, but still were swept 3-0 by top seeded Lake George in the Section II Class C quarterfinals at Lake George High School.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-20, 25-16.

Hartford played arguably one of their best matches of the season. It was certainly the most competitive the Tanagers had been again Lake George, leading at various times in each set.

However, the Warriors are just too talented and too experienced for Hartford to overcome.

Evie Burke led Lake George with 26 assists, seven kills and eight digs. Grace York added 23 digs for the Warriors. Angelina Minnear chipped in 11 digs and 10 kills.

For Hartford, Cailin Severance had 15 digs. Raeghan Liebig contributed six kills.

Lake George moved to 17-0 with the win. The Warriors will meet #4 Maple Hill in the semifinals Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Hudson Falls.

Hartford finishes the season 11-10.
