Keith's Saratoga Picks-July 17th

It's going to be a beautiful day for racing on a Sunday at the Saratoga Race Course as the first week of the meet wraps up. So far it has been a typical Saratoga meet. A 43-1 shot has won. Chad Brown is on top of the trainer standings and won in seventh Diana. An unbeaten horse was beaten for the first time. And the Christophe Clement and Joel Rosario combo look tough on the grass.

Today's feature race is the Quick Call Stakes presented by The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. The Quick Call is a Grade III stakes for $175,000 at 5 1/2 furlongs for three year old.

The morning line favorite at 6-5 is the Kentucky bred Big Invasion for Clement ridden by, of course Rosario. Big Invasion seemd to be the horse to beat in here with four wins in a row, three of them against stakes company. he is 4 of 5 lifetime. However, this is Saratoga and heavy favorites have not played well here early in the meet.

The biggest threat appears to be Nobals for Larry Rivelli with Irad Ortiz Jr. aboard. Nobals has won three straight, all graded stakes.

I am going to give an ever so slight edge to Big Invasion based on a little bit better speed figure and the Clement/Rosario factor.
