The Granville field hockey team kept their perfect early season record intact as they defeated Emma Willard 6-0 Wednesday on their home field at Quaker Elementary.
The teams played scoreless in the first quarter, then the Golden Horde started to roll. Natalie Williams converted a Haylie Barber pass to give Granville a 1-0 lead at12:03 of the second period. Barber then set up a goal by Raegan Swain with 6:56 to play in the half to extend the Golden Horde lead to 2-0.
"We started a little slow but then started to play our game offensively," Granville coach Katie Barber said.
Williams struck quickly in the third quarter, hitting the back of the cage for the second time in the contest off an assist from Swain to make it 3-0 with nine minutes left in the quarter.
Granville put it out of reach with three goals in the fourth. First Barber scored an unassisted goal to up the margin to 4-0 with 9:20 to play.
Next, Swain converted a pass from Barber to make it 5-0 with 3:30 left. Barber scored on a helper from Swain to provide the final score.
Granville outshot the Jesters 23-0 and held a 15-0 advantage in offensive corners.
Megan Decker and Kalyn Gould split the playing time and the shutout in goal for the Golden Horde.
Punch Kongsomijit had 17 saves for Emma Willard.
"I'm happy with how the girls are coming together," Barber added.
Granville is now 4-0. Emma Willard is 0-2.
