Golden Horde Stickers Open With Win
The Granville field hockey team flexed their early season muscles as they opened the 2022 campaign with a 6-0 win over Ichabod Crane in a non-league game played in Granville. The Golden Horde got out to an early lead and cruised to the decisive victory.
Granville scored two goals in the first quarter and two in the second to take control from the start. Natalie Williams gave the Golden Horde a 1-0lead less than three minutes into the game with a goal at the 12:32 mark of the first half. The goal by Williams was unassisted.
Melissa Beaver increased the lead to 2-0 with 4:20 to go in the opening stanza with an unassisted goal of her own.
In the second quarter Raegan Swain made it 3-0 Granville with her first goal of the season at the 6:24 mark. Late in the period Ashley Pratt scored off an assist from Haylie Barber to send the Golden Horde to the half with a 4-0 lead.
Williams connected for her second goal of the afternoon off an assist from Claire Gould at the 10:11 mark of the third.
Barber completed the scoring in the fourth when she scored an unassisted goal with 13:12 to play.
Megan Decker and Kalyn Gould combined for the shutout in goal for Granville. Decker played the first and fourth quarters while Gould handled the middle periods.
Granville finished with 23 shots on goal.
Catherine Farley in her first ever appearance in goal was a bright spot for the Riders.
Granville is 1-0. Ichabod Crane is 0-1.
