Golden Horde Play Lights Out In Lights Week Finale

By Keith Harrington

It was the finale of the annual "Lights Week" in Granville at Sam Eppolito Field. It was only fitting that the Granville football team played light out as they earned their first win of the season 50-0 over Cohoes.

The Golden Horde scored early and often as they left no doubt as to was the better team against the Tigers.

Nick Crum ran for touchdowns of three and 48 yards in the first half to give Granville a 14-0 lead.

“We all played like we’re supposed to. It was a team effort,” Crum said after the game. “I couldn’t have done it without my line.”

Crum added a four yard scoring run in the second quarter. Quarterback RJ Monger tossed a 13-yard TD pass to Trevor McKnight and Alex Warrington added an eight yard scoring run for the Golden Horde to build a 34-0 halftime lead.

Matthew Barlow and Tim Pratt had two-point conversion runs.

Barlow opened the second half by running the kickoff back 65 yards to make it 40-0. Monger passed to Warrington for the conversion.

A 25-yard TD run from Pratt rounded out the scoring. Alex Torres ran in the conversion.

Granville coach John Irion was pleased with the Golden Horde's effort.

“I feel good about it. We still had a few mistakes, but there was a lot more good than there was bad,” Irion said. “We weren’t sure if we were going to put it together, but we did. I think we’ve got a better combination of where kids need to be.”

Granville is now 1-2 on the season. Cohoes is 0-5.
