A little over a week ago after romping to the the Adirondack League girls cross country championship, Granville's Amber Gibbs stated that earning a spot in the state meet was her next goal.
"It is a goal. I've wanted to go to states. So I'm going to make it my goal to go there," Gibbs said.
Mission accomplished. Gibbs placed fifth in the Section II Class C girls event and punched her ticket to the state meet. Gibbs becomes the first Granville runner to earn a spot at states in over a decade.
The top team in each class, as well as the top five runners not on the winning team advance to states.
Gibbs navigated the course in a time of 21:18.8, an average pace of 6:52 a mile. She finished behind champion Erin Boler of Albany Academy, Megan Vianese of Schuylerville, Adeline Ballou of Schulerville and Emma Frasier of Broadalbin-Perth.
It was also a great day for the Lake George boys. The Warriors are also off to the state meet after winning the team title in Class C. James Richard of Lake George was the highest finisher for the Warriors in sixth. Liam Fahey Stack was seventh, Jason Ludlow ninth, Samuel Burns14th and Brendan Battersea-Manna 15th for Lake George.
Brody Olden of Warrensburg finished second in the Class D boys event and will make his second straight visit to states.
In the Class C girls race Samantha Savage of Corinth/Hadley-Luzerne placed sixth.
In Class D girls Hartford's Brynn Tyler was 19th. Taylor Syvertsen of Lake George was 24th and Layla Johnston was 29th for the Warriors.
