Granville's Barlow Helps Lead Castleton to Victory
The Granville field hockey program has had a great deal of success when it comes to sending players to compete at the college level. Yesterday afternoon a new chapter was written as Granville graduate Payton Barlow had a strong game for the Castleton University Spartans in their 8-1 win over Morrisville. Barlow finished with a goal and two assists.
Barlow recorded her first career assist when she connected with Emily Harris who found the back of the cage at the 17:02 mark of the first half.
Barlow then scored her first goal of the season in the second half at the 43:30 mark to give the Spartans a 6-1 lead.
Nine minutes later Barlow set up Abby Wetmore to make it 7-1 Castleton.
Harris finished with five goals on the afternoon.
Barlow is a sophomore for the Spartans.
Castleton is 1-1.

Golden Horde Open with Win Over Gloversville
The Granville field hockey is coming off of a Fall II sports season where they shared the Adirondack-Wasaren League championship with Hoosick Falls. The Golden Horde have enough talent returning to make another run at the crown and they wasted little time flashing their abilities as they opened the season by cruising past Gloversville on the road 9-0.
Melissa Beaver scored three goals to record a hat trick, while Raegan Swain and Alyssa Martindale tallied twice each in the Granville romp.
The Golden Horde led 5-0 at the half on Beaver's three goals and two from Swain.
Martindale scored her two goals in the second half. Gemma Castillo, and Ann Koutrakos also scored.
Castillo also had a pair of assists. Swain, Catherine Gould, Emmalena Breault, Natalie Williams, and Taylor Hoyt also had helpers.
The Golden Horde held a 28-2 shots on goal advantage.
Kalyn Gould and Megan Hover combined for the shutout in goal. Gould stopped one shot and Hover two.
Aaron Mcduffie had 20 saves for Gloversville.
Granville is 1-0. Gloversville 0-1.
