Lake George, Hartford Runners Compete at Grout Invitational
The Lake George and Hartford Cross Country teams were the only Adirondack League squads to compete Saturday at the Grout Invitational meet at Central Park in Schenectady. Despite a very deep and talented field Warrior and Tanager runners performed well.
As expected, Bennett Melita of Fonda-Fultonville dominated the boys Division C race with a time of 13:32.38. That is an average of 4:55 a mile. Malita was fourth at the state meet last year.
For Lake George, James Richard was 24th and Cameron Hoffis 29th. Richard ran a time of 15:53.97. Hoffis finished at 16:05.46.
Bryton Mandigo seems to be finding his form after a slow start to the season due to an injury. Mandigo finished with a mark of 17:56.79. Hongxu Qian finished with a time of 18:24.38. It was PR for the second straight race for Qian who averaged a 6:41 mile.
Hunter LaCross had a 18:43.90 for the Tanagers.
The Division C girls race was won by Emma Frasier of Broadalbin-Perth with a time of 17:13.06.
Taylor Syvertsen of Lake George was 12th in the event with a 18:56.84. Layla Johnston of the Warriors was 26th with a 20:01.12 and Sophia UnKauf 28th with a 20:11.18. Kayla Grant was 30th with a 20:15.34.
Hartford's only runner in the girls race, Lily Stokowski finished with a time of 23:51.81.

Schuylerville Blanks Tigers in Girls Soccer
Schuylerville had no issue finding the back of the net or keeping the ball out of it as they blanked Hudson Falls 7-0 in Foothills Council girls soccer.
Anna Armstrong scored three times to lead the Black Horses in the contest.
Keira Rogan recorded two goals for Schuylerville. Amanda Pflieger and Anika Buff each added a goal.
Alexis Hewitt had two assists for the Black Horses.
Taylor Barraclough earned the shutout in goal with two saves.
Katie Mitchell made 13 saves for Hudson Falls.
Schuylerville improved to 10-0 on the season.

MSJ Tops Westside in Boys Soccer
MSJ jumped out to a quick lead and went on to top West Rutland 5-1 in boys high school soccer.
The Mounties scored two early goal to take command. Ryan Laforest scored two times in the opening seven minutes for MSJ. Richard Casimir had an assist on the first Laforest goal.
Marquise Reed scored to make it 3-0 MSJ in the first half.
Tristan Rocke scored a first half goal for the Golden Horde to ake it 3-1, but Narven Paul hit the back of the net to make it 4-1 Mounties at the half.
Paul scored his second goal in the second half to round out the socring.
MSJ is 4-4. West Rutland is 3-5.
