Border Country Sports-October 11th

Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.


My apologies for not getting the Monday Hot List out yesterday. I will try to get to it later today. The Monday Hot List on a Tuesday? It will have to work. I spent the holiday with my family yesterday and we had an awewome time. With our schdules we don't get many chances so we had to take advantage of it. We had hoped to work some sports into the schedule by stopping by Adirondack Thunder training camp but we just didn't make it.


Granville Blanks Coxsackie-Athens


Granville made the long haul a successful one as they blanked Coxsackie-Athens 4-0 in a non-league field hockey matchup.


Raegan Swain started off the scoring in the first quarter at 10:04 with an unassisted goal to make it 1-0 Golden Horde. Granville held the 1-0 lead at the half.


Granville blew the game open with three goals in the second half, all coming in the fourth quarter.


Haylie Barber scored on an assist from MaKenna McKnight at 13:24 to increase the lead to 2-0.


Barber found the back of the cage again at 9:57 on an assist from Melissa Beaver to make it 3-0.


At 6:50 in the third quarter, Alyssa Martindale scored on an assist from Barber to provide the final margin of victory.


Granville outshot Coxsackie-Athens 12-8 and held an 8-7 advantage in offensive corners.


Megan Decker earned the shutout in goal with four saves for Granville.


Granville is now 10-4 on the season.

Fair Haven Keeps Slate Clean


The Fair Haven girls soccer team kept their slate clean, yes the pun was intended, as they defeated Springfield on the road 8-0.


Lily Briggs had a huge game as she scored four goals for the Slaters.


Brittney Love added two goals for Fair Haven. Madison Perry and Abi Fowler also contributed goals.


Kate Hadwen earned the shutout in goal, her sixth of the season.


Fair Haven is now 9-0. Springfield is 4-7.

Fair Haven Field Hockey Edges Rutland in OT


The Fair Haven field hockey team stayed white hot as they won a thriller of Rutland 2-1 in overtime.


Alana Williams scored with 2:57 remaining in overtime to give the Slaters a 2-1 victory.


Fair Haven has won four in a row and five of their last six.


Emilee Higgins had the assist on the game-winner.


Fair Haven led 1-0 at the half on a goal from Higgins who knocked in the rebound of a shot by Alexis Murray.


Arikka Patorti scored to tie things up for Rutland in the third quarter.


Fair Haven is 6-4-1. Rutland is 1-9-1.

Fort Ann Girls Win Consolation Game


The Fort Ann girls soccer team won the consolation game of the Maple Hill Tournament, defeating Berlin-New Lebanon 3-1.


Page Trzaskos scored in the first half to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Angel Aratare picked up the assist.


Lyndsey Pratt tied the game for Berlin-New Lebanon to make it 1-1 at the half.


Brooke Wright and Natalie Cody scored second half goals to give Fort Ann the win.


Olivia Winchell and Riley Echeandia had assists.


Baylee Wright had four saves in goal for the Cardinals.


Fort Ann is 8-3-3.
