Local Teams Set to Being Quest for Vermont State Titles
Now that Section II Tournament play is in the books for another year and the Argyle softball team is the only Adirondack League team left standing, it is time to shift our attention to the Vermont side of the border. The Vermont Principal's Association has released the pairings for the 2022 softball and baseball playoffs. Several local teams are primed to make a deep run.
Playdown games begin today. Good luck to all teams.
In Division IV softball Proctor earned the #1 seed. The Phantoms earn a by and will face the winner of #8 Craftsbury and #9 Twinfield.
An intersting quartefinal contest features #5 Poultney at # 4 West Rutland. The Golden Horde swept the season series but the Blue Devils should not be discounted. The Golden Horde and Blue Devils will meet Friday at 4:30 p.m. at West Rutland. Equally intriguing is a potential Proctor vs. West Rutland or Poultney semifinal meeting.
In Division II softball Otter Valley is the # 6 seed. The Otters will open tournament play tomorrow when they host Woodstock. A win would put them back in action on Friday against the winner of #3 Enosburg and #14 Rice.
In Division I Dick Wright's Rutland squad is seeded #7. The Raiders will hop right into action today when they host #7 Colchester. A win over the Lakers would earn Rutland a trip to #2 South Burlington on Friday.
For some reason West Rutland and Poultney must be locked into each other. The Golden Horde and Blue Devils will also meet on the baseball diamond in the playdown round. #7 Poultney will host #10 West Rutland this afternoon. The winner earns a date Saturday with #2 White River Valley.
A much improved Proctor team comes in to the playoffs hot and will be the #8 seed. The Phantoms will host #9 Richford today, looking to earn a shot at #1 Blue Mountain on Saturday.
In Diivision II Otter Valley is the #11 seed and travels to #6 Hartford today to battle the Hurricanes. The winner gets #3 Enosburg or #14 North Country on Friday.
Fair Haven is seeded 13th and will meet #4 Mount Abraham today. The winner of that game will meet either #5 U-32 or #12 Lake Region on Friday.
In Divison I Rutland is the #10 seed and will travel to #7 Burlington today. The winner meets Colchester Friday.
