Border Country Sports-July 16th

Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Report, I'm Keith Harrington.


So last night was an exciting evening! Not only was I one of the guest presenters at the Best of the Lakes Region Awards hosted by NYVT Media, but the big announcement that I have been teasing for a few days was finally made.


Coming soon, Border Country Sports will be joining forces with NYVT Media for local sports coverage. Border Country Sports will be joining NYVT Media as a affiliate for local sports coverage.


I could not be more excited about this opportunity to bring you all the best sports coverage in Washington County and the Lakes Region. More details are coming soon.

Twin State Soccer Games Today


The Twin State Soccer Cup matches between the senior all-stars from Vermont and New Hampshire will be contested today. at Hanover High School in New Hampshire. The boys game kicks off at 1 p.m. followed by the girls contest at 4 p.m.


Vermont won both games last year, with the boys winning 5-1 and the women 3-2.


New Hampshire leads the series. The men hold a 19-18-9 edge and the Granite State women lead the series 19-14-5.


The lone local player in the boys game is Tyler Corey of MSJ.


Representing the Border Country area in the girls game are Kathryn Moore and Camryn Kinsman of Rutland; Maggie McKearin, Proctor.


McKearin who tallied over 100 career goal is the only Division IV player in the game.

Salem Rolls Past Granville in TCML Softball


Salem used an eight run fifth inning to pull away to roll past Granville 17-4 in TCML softball.


Salem led 9-4 after three innings then blew the game open with the productive fifth.


Bella Eastman earned the win in the circle to improve to 8-1 on the season. Eastman struck out eight.


Olivia Crosier was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Riley Gallagher was 3 for 4 with a triple and six RBIs. Eastman was 2 for 2 and Kady Crosier also drove in a run.


For Granville, Megan Decker was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Maddie Wilson and Melody Schinski added RBIs. Courtney Ennis and MaKenzie Garrison both contributed hits.


Salem is 8-1. Granville is 1-6.

Ticonderoga Nips Hartford in TCML Softball


Ticonderoga jumped out to an early lead then held off a Hartford rally to claim a 9-8 win in TCML softball.


Ticonderoga led 5-0 after the top of the third, but Hartford pulled to within 5-4 in the bottom of the frame.


The teams swapped runs over the last two innings with Ticonderoga managing to squeeze out the victory.


Ellah Slattery was 2 for 4 for Ticonderoga.


Sierra McDermott was 2 for 3 for Hartford.
