Border Country Sports Blog-September 27th

Good Morniing! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.

Well, here we go with the Monday Morning Hot List, a look at who was "Hot" this week in local high school sports. I have to admit. I am a bit blurry eyed this morning after a late night at the Slate Valley 100 at Devil's Bowl Speedway, but I will make it through.

--Dylan Winchell of Warrensburg football had a quarter against Granville on Saturday that most people would be happy with for an entire game. Winchell ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter alone. Winchell had TD runs of 19, 26 and 75. He finished with 186 yards for the game in a 54-0 win.

--Speaking of Warrensburg football, Winchell's backfield partner also had a big game against Granville. Tim Kelly finished the afternoon with 150 yards on the ground of his own. Kelly had a pair scoring runs and the Burghers rolled up 426 yards on the ground.

--The Fort Ann girls soccer team pulled off a huge win as they snapped Lake George's 58 game Adirondack League winning streak. The Cardinals nipped the Warriors 1-0 on a goal by Paige Trzaskos. Baylee Wright had the shutout in goal.

--Tyler Cory may now play soccer for MSJ, but he will now go down in history at Mill River. Cory had played at Mill River until this season. Last week in a 5-1 win for MSK over Proctor Cory scored career goal #67 which made him the all-time leading scorer in school history.

--The Rutland football team continued their winning ways this week. The Ravens moved to 4-0 on the season as they slipped past St. Johnsbury 28-14. Trey Davine tossed a pair of TD passes in the win for Rutland.

--If fans in Proctor kept the tradition of tossing hats onto the field when a player records a hat trick, Maggie McKearin would have enough to open her own shop. McKearin scored three times in the Phantom's 6-0 win at Poultney.

--Speakng of hat tricks, Katie McEachron had one this week as Granville field hockey continued to roll. The Golden Horde have now win five in a row, and McEachron hit the back of the cage three times in the first half against Corinth in a 4-0 win.

--It was a great week for Whitehall golf. The Railroaders won four matches. Whitehall edged previously unbeaten Granville 3-2, and also topped Lake George, Fort Edward and Hartford-Fort Ann to stay unbeaten on the season and tied for first place in the ADK with Hadley-Luzerne.

--The Lake George and Hartford volleyball teams stayed hot in ADK play. Both teams stayed undefeated this week. The two teams appear to be on a collision course for the league title.

--Fort Ann boys soccer won the battle of ADK unbeatens this week as they topped Hadley-Luzerne 3-0. Dakota Winch, Jackson Paige and Sam Fredericks scored for the Cardinals.
