Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.

Granville Blanks Riders on Emotional NIght

It was an emotional night Monday at the Granville field hockey game. Not only was it the first of two Senior Nights for the Golden Horde, longtime Granville Super Fan Ed Roszak who passed away this week was honored. Roszak was a familar figure at the Golden Horde home sporting events. He was always cheering on the teams while decked out in his Golden Horde gear. He was known as Granville's "Biggest Fan."

Seniors Katie McEachron, Rachel Beaver, Emmalena Breault and Kali Duel were honored in a ceremony before the contest.

On the field, Granville rode the emotional wave to a dominating 5-0 win over overmatched Ichabod Crane.

It was the fourth win in a row for the Golden Horde.

Granville got off to a fast start against the Riders, scoring three times in the opening stanza. Katie McEachron began the scoring at the 10:58 mark of the first off of an assist from Melissa Beaver.

Raegan Swain made it 2-0 Golden Horde just 34 seconds later. Haylie Barber assisted on the Swain goal.

Rachel Beaver scored on a penalty stroke with 1:14 to play in the period to extend the lead to 3-0.

In the third Barber found the back of the cage with 1:40 to play to make it 4-0. Swain added an assist to her stat line.

Swain rounded out the scoring with 8:30 to go in the match to round out the scoring. Barber picked up the assist.

Granville outshot the Riders a whopping 31-0.

Megan Decker earned the shutout in goal. She did not record a save.

After the game during the Golden Horde's traditonal post game lap the Granville players all touched a blue folding chair decorated with balloons, flowers, a Golden Horde hat and a picture of Roszak. A fitting salute to their dedicated supporter.

Granville is 5-1.

Fort Ann Fends Off Tanager Rally

The Fort Ann boys soccer team looked like they were going to cruise to victory as they jumped out to an early lead, but had to fight off a Hartford comeback attempt in a 3-2 Adirondack League win.

The Cardinals led 3-0 in the second half before the Tanagers scored twice to narrow the gap.

Fort Ann took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break after an own goal.

Ryan Blondin made it 2-0 with 37:08 to play. Tyler Winchell scored just under six minutes later and Fort Ann looked to be in complete control.

Two late Hartford goals made it interesting. Logan Reynolds scored with 4:11 to go off an assist from Drake Stewart.

Just 20 seconds later Cody Baker hit the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Dylan Brown stopped five shots for Fort Ann. Austin Wells recorded five saves for Hartford.
