McEachron, Swain Lead Granville Over Salem-Cambridge
The Granville field hockey team found themselves trailing Salem-Cambridge at the half, but Katie McEachron and Raegan Swain came to the rescue. The duo combined on a pai of second hand goals as Granville came from behind for a 2-1 Adirondack-Wasaren League win.
"We've always played three sports together so that's why we play well together," McEachron said about the chemistry between her and Swain.
McEachron nearly missed her senior year of field hockey after a hand injury during summer softball. She plays with the hand heavily protected, but McEachon doesn''t seem to miss a beat.
Salem-Cambridge controlled possession for most of the first half and it paid off. Lexy Cary converted a pass from Mary Kate McPhee with 11:35 to go in the second quarter to give her team a 1-0 advantage.
The deficit seemed to light a spark under the Golden Horde. Granville came out and dominated the final 30 minutes. Salem-Cambridge goalie Brailyn Wright was under heavy fire the entire second and did everything but stand on her head to keep he team's lead.
Granville drew even with 12:55 to go in the third quarter when McEachron scored first goal off an assist from Swain.
After multiple close chances the Golden Horde finally for the game-winner with 9:55 remaining when McEachron and Swain hooked up again.
Goalie Megan Decker and the Granville defense made the lead hold up despite late pressure from Salem-Cambridge.
Granville outshot Salem-Cambridge 21-9.
