Gibbs, Lake George Lead ADK at Grout Invitational


Cross Country runners from near and far gathered at Central Park in Schenectady Saturday for the annual Grout Invitational meet. Grout is one of classic cross country races in the area. Amber Gibbs of Granville-Whitehall and the Lake George girls team had strong finishes from the Adirondack League.


Gibbs nabbed a top 10 finish in the Division C girls race. Gibbs crossed the line in 8th place with a time of 19:07. That was a new record time over the Central Park course for Gibbs.


The Lake George girls finished second as a team in Division C. The Warriors finished behind first place Greenwich. Taylor McLarty finished 12th to lead Lake George. Taylor Syvertsen was 13th, Kayla Grant 27th and Mattison Stark 28th for the Warriors.


Hartford's Gabbie McFarren had a solid 39th place finish.


On the boys side Lake George finished 10th as a team. Nathan Hilbert was the highest finishe for the Warriors in 43rd.


Logan Reynolds of Hartford was 27th and Bryton Mandigo 40th.


Quinn Johnson of Granville-Whitehall was 31st.

Slaters Blank Poultney in Rivalry Game


Fair Haven and Poultney renewed their annual high school football rivalry game Saturday at Dean Houghton Field in Poultney. The Slaters got out to a big first half lead and went on to blank the Blue Devils 41-0.


Quarterback Joe Buxton led Fair Haven, going 7 for 7 through the air for 226 yards and a pair of TD strikes. The sophomore hooked up with Matt Heibler on a 34-yard pass and a 50-yard catch and run to Tim Kendall.


All 41 Fair Haven points came in the first half as they gave their younger players some time over the final two quarters.


Kendall began the scoring for the Slaters with an eight yard scoring run. Sam Barber extended the lead by scoring from seven yards out.


Carson Babbie added to the Slater's scoring onlaught with a 28-yard touchdown run.


Trey Lee rounded out the scoring with 8:29 to play in the half with a TD run. Lee's score was set up by a Barber interception.


Heibler finished with 102 receiving yards. Sawyer Ramey added 74 yards of receiving.


Taite Capman threw for 84 yards to lead Poultney on offense. Payton Book rushed for 34 yards for the Blue Devils.


Fair Haven is 3-2. Poultney is 1-4.
