North Warren Wins First Ever Sectional Game

The firsts just continue to keep coming for the North Warren girls soccer program. Thursday the Cougars won their first ever sectional game as they rolled over Heatly 7-0 on their home pitch.

North Warren's first girls soccer season took place in the Fall II season last spring. The Cougars had a strong field hockey program for years before making the switch. It was the third win in a row for North Warren as they were coming off wins over Spa Catholic and Granville. The Cougars have won four of their last six.

#7 North Warren took a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime. Kianna LaGuerre scored two first half goals and Megan Bruno added another. Bruno and Sarah Whitman picked up assists. The first two goals by LaGuerre and Bruno came less than two minutes apart.

LaGuerre finished off her hat trick and added two more goals for good measure, finishing with five tallys in the game.

Nicole Buckman added a goal for the Cougars. Bruno finished with three assists.

LaGuerre has scored 11 goals in the last three games.

"Every team needs that one person who is hungry to score," North Warren coach Randy LaFountain said about LaGuerre. "I asked her today if she was ready to score and she said yeah, and she scored five goals. I finally found one."

Ruth Brior had the shutout in goal with four saves for North Warren.

North Warren, now 6-10 advances to challenge #2 Northville Thursday at 3 p.m.
