ADK Soccer Teams Head to Sectional Play


The boys and girls soccer sectional pairings were announced yesterday and several Adirondack League teams will be heading into action. Here is a look at the playoff brackets.


In boys Class D Fort Ann is the #4 seed. Argyle is ranked #5. The two ADK rivals will meet in the quarterfinals on Saturday at noon. The Scots defeated the Cardinals in their most recent meeting.


Hartford is seeded #6 and will meet #3 Loudonville Christian Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Boughton Complex.


North Warren is seeded #7 and will play against #2 St. Johnsville Friday at Gloversville at 7:p.m.


In Class C boys Lake George is the #3 seed and plays the Berne-Knox vs. Cambridge winner on their home pitch Thursday at 3 p.m.


Hadley-Luzerne is ranked #11 and hosts #22 Bishop Gibbons in a play-in game today, Bolton-Warrensburg is seeded 15th and hosts #18 Schoharie this afternoon at 3 p.m.


In Class D girls Fort Ann was awarded the #1 seed and was awarded a bye. The Cardinals will face the winner of #8 Loudonville Christian and #9 Spa Catholic on October 25th at home at 3 p.m.


Salem is the #6 seed and will travel to meet #3 St. Johnsville at St. Johnsville October 25th at 3 p.m.


North Warren earned the #7 seed and will host #10 Heatly Thursday at 3 p.m.


In Class C Bolton-Warrensburg is seeded #5 and will await the Middleburgh vs. Chatham winner on Friday at 3 p.m.


League champion Lake George is the #8 seed and will host #9 Canajoharie on Friday at 3 p.m.


Corinth is #13 and will meet #20 Duanesburg at home tomorrow at 3 p.m.


#18 Hadley-Luzerne travels to #15 Cairo-Durham for a play-in game tomorrow at 3 p.m.

MSJ Nips Poultney


It has been a rollercoaster last few days for rhe MSJ Girls Soccer team. Last Thursday the Mounties nearly spoiled Proctor's perfect season in a 3-2 loss. Saturday that same Proctor team rolled over MSJ 10-0. The Mounties bounced back Monday with a 1-0 win on the road against an upstart Poultney team on Senior Day for the Blue Devils.


Brooke Bishop was the difference in this one and she scored the only goal of the game.


The Blue Devils had several chances but could not hit the back of the net.


Poultney is now 6-6-1. MSJ is 7-3-1.

Big First Half Leads Cougars Past Granville


Watch out Adirondack League teams. The future is bright for North Warren girls soccer. In just their second season of replacing fiield hockey with soccer the Cougars are starting to flash their potential. Fresh off of a 6-1 win over Spa Catholic North Warren used a big first half to cruise past Granville 5-1 in Adirondack League girls soccer.


North Warren scored all five of their goals in the first half.


Kiana LaGuerre recorded a hat trick with three first half goals.


Nicole Buckman also had a stellar game for the Cougars with a goal and two assists.


Isabella Swartz also scored for North Warren. Megan Bruno had two assists. Nicole Arcila also had a helper.


Alyssa Welner had a second half tally for Granville.


Ruth Briar had 14 saves for North Warren. Nicole Arnhold stopped 10 shots for Granville.


North Warren now moves on to their first ever sectional appearance as the #6 seed and will host their first playoff game against #10 Heatly. It has been a season of first for the Cougars. First ever win. First home win, and first two game winning streak.

Fair Haven Wins Over Proctor


On Saturday after a 2-0 loss to Otter Valley in the Jimmy T Memorial Showcase Fair Haven coach Tim Dayton stated that none of his players had earned the traditional Player of the Game t-shirt awarded to a standout from each team. It appears Dayton got his point across.


Monday on Fair Haven's return to Taranovich Field it should be t-shirts for everyone. The Slaters bounced back with their biggest win of the year, edging Proctor 3-2.


Fair Haven jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime.


Nick Carrabino gave Fair Haven a 1-0 lead just 11 minutes into the contest. Matt Finnegan scored to make it 2-0 on a direct kick 15 minutes later.


Proctor pulled within 2-1 with an own goal in the second half.


Jace Hetrick scored of an assist from Carrabino to extend the Fair Haven lead to 3-1.


Joel Denton scored bring the Proctor to within 3-2 but the Phantoms could not equalize.


Fair Haven is now 2-9-1. Proctor is 5-4-2.
