Keith No-Hitter Leads Otter Valley Over Wasps


Riley Keith dominated in the circle and was stellar at the plate as Otter Valley defeated Woodstock 13-1 in a Vermont Division II softball playdown game at Candon Field Wednesday afternoon. The game was shortened to five innings by the run rule.


Keith spun a no-hitter with eight Ks, waling only three to advance the Otters to the quarterfinal round.


Keith also had three hits, a double and three RBIs for Otter Valley.


The Otters built a 3-0 lead in the first, added two in the third, and then all but put the game away with five runs in the third.


Ryleigh LaPorte was on base three times for Otter Valley including a double and two RBIs. alice Keith had an RBI double. Marissa Connors added an RBI single.


#6 Otter Valley is now 11-6 and will face the winner of #3 Enosburg Falls and #14 Rice Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Golden Horde Upsets Poultney in 5 Innings


One of the things that makes the playoffs interesting is you never know what will transpire. No more was that obvious than yesterday afternoon in Poultney. The Blue Devils swept West Rutland 10-6 and 4-2 during the regular season, but the Golden Horde turned the tables Wednesday. Boy did they ever.


Westside rode a strong pitchng performance from freshman Andrew Bailey and took advantage of a slew of Poultney walks to come away with a 15-0 five inning win in the Vermont Division IV baseball playdowns. TheGolden Horde entered the playoffs with just one win on the season.


Bailey fired a one-hitter and struck out 10 to earn the win on the bump, surviving an early duel with Poultney's Craig Baptie.


The game was scoreless for two innings, but the Golden Horde took a 3-0 lead in the third.


Westside clung to the three run lead until the fifth when they blew it open by plating 12. Garrett Owens nailed a two-run double in the frame. Caden Reed, Jeff Tedesco and Clayton Kessop all had RBI singles in the inning.


Kessop and Gus Covarrubias had RBI doubles in the third.


Kessop finished with a pair of hits and four RBIs for the Golden Horde.


Poultney used four pitchers in the contest. Along with Baptie, Gabe Wescott, Hagen McDermott and Jayden Mead also spent time on the bump. The group combined for 11 base on balls.


Liam Hill had the lone safety for Poultney with an infield hit.


A young Poultney team finishes the season at 6-9.


West Rutland is now 2-15 and moves on to meet #2 White Rivver Valley on Saturday.

Granville Unified Basketball Wins Thriller


The Granville Unified basketball had a moment that will not soon be forgotten recently when they defeated Queensbury 52-52 with a thrilling buzzer beater.


Trailing 51-50 with one second left on the clock the Golden Horde had possession in front ot their own bench. Kody Devino lobbed a picture-perfect pass over the top of the Spartan's defense. Dean Angove collected the pass on the back side and put it in at the buzzer to give Granville the dramatic win.


"It was the most awesome experience ever. It was great," Katie Barber, one of the Granville coaches said.


Zander Wilson led Granville with 13 points. Angove added 12. Andrew Barnes had10 points, Connor Martin 8, Shawn Sparks 4, Natalie Walker 4 and Kya Walker 2.
