Nelsons Lead Golden Horde in Instant Classic
If it was ESPN they would call it an "Instant Classic!" Granville's Caleb Nelson and Stillwater's Shea Brown hooked up in a pitching duel as the Golden Horde advanced with a 1-0 win the Warriors in a Class CC opening round contest at Ken Burch Field. Granville won it with a walk-off in the bottom of the eighth.
In a game that only lasted one hour and 25 minutes the teams were tied 0-0 heading to the bottom of eighth and Brown had a no-hitter going for Stillwater. Nelson was dealing as well, only giving up three hits.
In the extra frame Cody Nelson broke up the no-hitter with a lead off single. He moved over to third on a passed ball and scored on Caleb Nelson's RBI walk-off single.
Caleb Nelson finished with 15 strikeouts and only walked one.
Brown finished with a two-hitter and 11 strikeouts.
Cody Nelson was also instrumental behind the plate, throwing out a pair of Stillwater runners.
Jaxson Mueller was 1 for 3 for the Warriors.
The #6 Golden Horde now meet #3 Maple Hill on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Class CC quarterfinals on the Wildcats home diamond.
Granville is now 10-4 on the season.

Whitehall Rolls Over Canjo in Class C Softball
Whitehall took a 2-0 lead after two innings, then swung their bats into high gear in the fourth and fifth as they finished off Canajoharie 12-0 in five innings in a Class C opening round game.
The #2 Railroaders scored a run in the first and another in the second, then exploded for five runs each in both the fourth and fifth to send Canjo home.
Madi Gould fired a 3-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Whitehall. Gould helped herself at the plate by going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and two RBIs.
Ava Ruby also had a strong game at the plate, going 3 for 4 with three singles and four RBIs. Olivia Whiting smacked a pair of doubles.
Caitlyn Baker doubled for Canajoharie. Megan Blakeslee and Andrea Bowerman singles.
Whitehall now will meet #7 Stillwater today in the Class C quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m.
Whitehall is 15-1 in the season.

Lake George Edges Granville in Class C Softball
Granville was hoping the third time would be the charm, but Lake George had other plans as the Warriors edged the Golden Horde 4-3 in a Class C opening round game in Lake George. With the win Lake George completes a three game season sweep of Ganville with each game tightly contested.
In this one the game was scoreless until Granville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth.
Lake George scored two in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth to claim the victory.
Shannon Starratt scattered five hits and struck out 11 for the Warriors. Starratt went over the 100 strikeout mark in the game. She currently has 104 Ks on the season.
Grace York and Mollie Johnson doubled for Lake George.
Lilly Strout doubled for Granville.
12-3 Lake George, the #4 seed now moves on to face #5 Berne-KNox today at home at 4:30 p.m.

Burghers Blank Galway in Class C Opener
Warrensburg moved on to the Class Quarterfinals, blanking Galway 6-0 in an openng round contest on their home diamond. The #6 Bughers will travel to Greenwich today to challenge the #3 Witches.
Warrensburg scored three runs in the first and three in the sixth.
Kailey Bacon earned the win in the circle for Warrensburg. Bacon gave up just one hit and struckout five. She also went over the 100 strikeout mark for the season.
Kara Bacon was 4 for 4 for the Burghers. Leigha Barnaby was 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs.
Amber Kolpakas had 10 Ks for Galway.
Trish Oliver and Jillian Neahr had two hits for the Golden Eagles.
Warrensburg is now 11-5.
