Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.
Fair Haven Wins State Bowling Title
Fair Haven is no stranger to state championships during the winter sports season. Although both basketball teams came up a bit short this year after excellent seasons, the Slaters were still able to add some hardware to the school trophy case.
Saturday Fair Haven defeated Brattleboro 4-2 at Twin City Lanes in Barre. It was the second championship in the last three years for the Slaters.
Fair Haven took a challenging path to the title. The Slaters began the tournament by knocking off #4 seed South Burlington 4-1.
Fair Haven then advanced to the championship match by upsetting top seeded Randolph 4-1.
The Slaters received strong performances from Nick Snide, AJ McManus, Josh Kennedy, Keenan Donaldson and Hunter Greene to claim the crown.
Fort Edward's Carpenter Named to Castleton Wall of Fame
I called the play by play for numerous games that Tyler Carpenter played in for Fort Edward High School when I was working for the now extinct Tyler Carpenter. When I had the Adirondack Sportsnet website Carpenter was once our Player of the Year for high school football. Carpenter will always stick in my mind as one of the best players to come out of an ADK school.
Recently Carpenter had a much larger honor bestowed up him. Carpenter was named to the Castleton University Football Wall of Fame inside the Spartan's locker room. He is only the seventh player all time to receive the honor.
Carpenter still holds the Castleton school record for yards in a game with 298 against Becker. He also owns the school record for career touchdowns with 50.
Carpenter played at Castleton on their first ever football team.
