Hitchcock Places Second at National Tournament
After winning a New York State championship Warrensburg -Bolton wrestler Tristan Hitchcock was not done. This weekend Hitchcock competed in the Junior category at the NHSCA National Championships held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It was the 33rd year for the annual event.
The tournament featured more than 500 wrestlers from 50 U.S. states and two other nations in about a dozen weight classes.
Hitchcock performed well, advancing all the way to the final in the 285 pound weight class before falling by a very close decision for a second place finish. Hitchcock finished 5-1 at the event.
On Friday Hitchcock defeated won by fall over Julyan Dodson of Pennsylvania in 1:22. He then pinned Gabe Lowe of Georgia in just 10 seconds. Hitchcock closed the first day with an 8-3 decision over Owen Box of Ohio.
On Saturday Hitchcock won his quarterfinal match by a 7-0 decision over Tennessee's Kiemel Redford. Later in the day Hitchcock rallied to win his semifinal match. Trailing 7-4 late, Hitchcock turned the tables and pinned Bill Brosko of Pennsylvania in 4:42.
Sunday Hitchcock battled Max Acciardi of New Jersey for the NHSCA 285 pound Junior National Title. Acciardi was able to edge Hitchcock by a very close 2-1 decision.
The second place finish gives Hitchcock NHSCA All-American status.
Previously Hitchcock had won the Section II Class D championship, the Section II Division II State Qualifier and the New York State Division II Championship.
Hitchcock went 47-2 during the season.
