Third Times a Charm! Westside Rallies Past Proctor in Division IV Semis
The #4 West Rutland softball team had lost to #1 Proctor twice this season, and it certainly was not looking for the Golden Horde for most of the third meeting between the rivals. However, that all changed in the sixth inning.
West Rutland took advantage of six Proctor walks, an error and came through with the clutch hits to come from behnid to defeat the Phantoms 7-6 in the Vermont Divison IV semifinals.
Six run deficits seem to be like gold for West Rutland. They also trailed Poultney 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
The Golden Horde entered the sixth down 6-0, tied the game in the frame and then scored the game-winner in the seventh. Proctor starter Cadence Goodwin seemed to be in controll heading into the inning but her control wavered in the frame.
Arianna Coombs had two RBIs in the sixth for West Rutland. Camryn Williams also singled.
The eventual winning run was scored without the benefit of a hit when Williams walked, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
Proctor led two runs in the second and three in the fourth to lead 5-0.
Rhi Lubaszewski homered for the Phantoms in the sixth to make it 6-0.
Peyton Guay earned the win in the circle for the Golden Horde.
Goodwin finished with seven Ks for Proctor.
West Rutland will meet #6 Richford in the state championship game. The Golden Horde are now 13-5.
Proctor closes out an outstanding campaign at 14-2.
