Goodwin Leads Phantoms Over


The top seeded Proctor softball team rolled through their first opponent in the Vermont Division IV playoffs, eliminating #8 Craftsbury 25-1 in a game shortened to five innings.


Cadence Goodwin became the latest local pitcher to reach the 100 strikeout mark for the season, picking up the win in the circle. Goodwin spun a three-hitter with eight Ks.


Isabel Greb and Rhi Lubaszewski both belted home runs for the Phantoms.


Goodwin, Maggie McKearin and Angel Traverse had two hits each for Proctor. Reagan Phelps added a hit.


Proctor is now 14-1 on the season and awaits the winner of West Rutland vs. Poultney.

Hurricanes End Fair Haen Softball Season


Fair Haven was within striking distance in the sixth inning, but Hartford pulled away late to end the Slater's season, 17-5 in the Vermont Division II playdowns.


Fair Haven trailed just 7-5 in the sixth inning, then the Hurricanes exploded.


Hartford scored 10 runs in the sixth to blow the game open and the Slaters didn't have time to retaliate.


Marina Grassi picked up the win in the circle for the Hurricanes, going the distance, striking out five.


Grassi also had a big day at the plate, helping her own cause by going 5 for 5.


Becca Keelty went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for Hartford. Harper Robinson was 4-for-5.


Fair Haven finishes the season 6-10.


Hartford moves on to challenge #5 Middlebury on Saturday.

ADK Athletes Place at State Qualifier


A few Adirondack League athletes placed at the opening day of the Section II State track and field qualifier meet held at Shenendehowa HIgh School.


In Division II Dante Corriveau of Warrensburg placed second in the 3200 with a time of 10:13.46. He was also third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.39.


Kyle Doran of Lake George was second in the pole vault with a jump of 11-3.


Landon Olden of Warrensburg was second in the shot put with a throw of 30-11.25 and third in the high jump with a 4-11.75.


In girls Division II Madeline Burke of Lake George had a solid day. Burke placed first in the shot put portion of the pentathlon with a 26-11.75.


Burke was also third in the 100 meter hurdles portion of the pentathlon with a time of 18.13.


Amber Gibbs of Granville was seventh in the 3000 meters.
