Locals to Play in North/South Softball Classic
After the 2020 and 2021 games were not played because of Covid-19 the Vermont North/South Softball lassic is set to return this summer. Several local players have been selected to play on the South team this year.
The South team will feature Border Country Sports area standouts Riley Keith and Marissa Connors of Otter Valley; Olivia Almeida and Mercedes Cathcart of Fair Haven; Samera Rideout, Tamara Sabotka and Alyssa Kennedy of Rutland; Kaylah Bennett of Poultney and Laci French of Proctor.
Also named to the South squad are Ari Cioffi and Izzy Belisle if Springfield; Brittney Wright and Leah Madore, of Brattleboro; Audrey Tumbreull of Vergennes; Megan Holling, Peyton Richardson and Karen Kapuscinski, of Windsor and Kim Cummings of Green Mountain.
Fair Haven’s Bill Jones is the coach of the South team. Jones will be assisted by his Slaters assistant Wally Fabian and Poultney head coach Tony Lamberton.
The North roster will be up of Grace Cook, Emilyrose Mercier, Cailey Appenzeller of Essex; Natalie Tenney, Emma Newland, Isabelle Priest, Brydie Barton of Lyndon; Cadence Moore of BFA-St. Albans; Taylor Farnsworth, Adrianna Lemieux, Delaney Rankin of St. Johnsbury; Alexandra Brouillette of Missisquoi; Ava Marshia, Rylie Cadieux of Danville; Dana Elkins, Emma Keelty of Enosburg; Sophia Stevens of CVU; and Chloe Palmer of Colchester.
St. Johnsbury’s Jeremey Roberts is coaching the North team, along with Aaron Carr and Chris Carr.
The three-game seires is scheduled for Castleton University starting on Friday, July 1 with two seven-inning games getting started at 4 p.m. A nine-inning game will be played on Saturday Juky 2 at 11 a.m.
