Argyle Softball Competes for State Title Today
The Argyle softball team continues their quest for a Class D state championship today in Long Island. The Scots will meet Section III champion Oriskany this morning at 11:15 at the Moriches Athletic Complex.
Argyle, coached by Lexi Nassivera comes into the contest with a 10-6 mark. The Scots were 3-5 at one point then won 7 of their next 8 including six in a row.
Nassivera's squad defeated Salem 4-1 to win the Section II title and Bolton-Schroon Lake 7-6 to claim the regional crown.
In the circle for the Scots will be sophomore Maddy Eldred who has gotten stronger and stronger as the season has gone on. Junior Kylee Humiston will guide her from behind the plate.
Humiston, Kate Lindsay and Paige Cormie pace the Argyle offensive attack.
Oriskany comes into the weekend with a record of 18-3. They advanced to the semifinals with a 5-4 regional win over Edwards-Knox. They have won 13 in a row.
Junior Juliet Tagliaferri is in her second season in the circle for the Redskins and has had an outstanding season. Tagliaferri along with Jordyn Carlo lead Oriskany at the plate. Megan Wright also swings a strong bat with more than 30 runs scored this season.
The Redskins feature a high octane offense that scored 10 or more runs 11 times in one 12-game stretch earlier in the season. Oriskany uses an agrressive bunt strategy and speed on the bases. They can also play a little defense, and have not allowed more than four runs since a 19-6 win over Morrisville-Eaton May 9.
Scio/Friendship (17-4) of Section V and Deposit/Hancock (15-6) from Section IV will face off in the other semifinal.
The winners will play the championship game at 3:45 p.m.
