Whitney Viewing Stand Open at Saratoga


If you are a fan of thoroughbred racing and are looking for something fun to do on your long holiday weekend, I just may have a solution. Pack up the family, grab some coffee and head to The Spa!


The season at the Saratoga Race Course is only a couple of weeks away, but if you are a morning person you can find some entertainment at the track already.


Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning the Whitney Viewing Stand is open to watch some of the world's finest race horses train. Horses can be viewed training from 7:00 a.m. to 10 a.m.


The Whitney Viewing Stand is accessible through Gate 21 on East Avenue and is free of charge.


The 2022 summer meet begins on Thursday, July 14 and will conclude on Monday, Sept. 5. With a focus on the New York-bred program and certain categories of stakes races, the 2022 summer meet will feature a purse increase of more than $1.1 million over 2021. The meet will feature 77 stakes worth $22.6 million in total purses with the highlight being the annual running of the Run Happy Travers Stakes on Saturday, August 27th.

Salem Defeats Granville in TCML Softball


Salem raced out to an early lead and held off a late Granville comeback attempt to claim a 9-6 win in TCML softball.


Salem scored three runs in the first, four in the second and one in the third to open an 8-2 advantage. Granville plated a pair of run in the second.


Granville cut their deficit to 8-3 with a run in the fourth, but Salem reponded with a run to extend the lead back to 9-3.


In the fifth Granville put together their best inning of the night, scoring three runs to pull within 9-6, but couldn't get any closer.


Bella Eastman earned the win in the circle for Salem, giving up seven hits and striking out nine.


Riley Gallagher had an RBI double for Salem. Kady Crosier added a pair of RBIs. Eastman also had a hit.


Courtney Ennis was 2 for 3 with three RBIs for Granville. Megan Decker was also 2 for 3. Alie Gonzalez was 2 for 3 woth an RBI. Jasmine Burch added a hit and RBI.


Salem is now 3-0 in the season. Granville drops to 0-3.

North and South Split First Two Games


The North-South All-Star Classic got underway yesterday afternoon at Castleton University. The North and South squads split a pait of games.


The North won the first game 7-1, with the South claiming the second game 6-1.


The final game of the three game series is scheduled for 11 a.m. this morning.
