Whitehall's Sawyer Ostrander Wins Trap Shooting State Title


The Whitehall trap shooting team recently competed at the New York State High School Clay Target League State Championships, and one shooter for the Railroaders came home as a state champion. The event was held at the Bridgeport Rod and Gun Club in Cicero, New York on June 26th according to coach Keith Redmond.


Sawyer Ostrander defeated a field of 117 shooters to claim the junior varsity division state championship. Ostrander recorded a score of 92 out of 100 to earn the crown.


Mason Rollo shot 83 out of 100 to place 97th out of 157 shooters in the varsity division.


Kolton Spaulding shot 79 out of 100 to place 125th in the varsity division.


Shawn Haines shot 35 out of 100 to finish 71st in novice division.

Hartford Edges Hadley-Luzerne in TCML Baseball


Hartford overcame an error filled defensive performance to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Hadley-Luzerne 9-7 in TCML Baseball action this week.


Hartford opened up a 7-3 lead, but Hadley-Luzerne rallied to tie the game in the sixth.


Hartford answered with a pair of runs in the final frame to grab the win.


Kile Whitney earned the win on the bump, going six innings, giving up five hits and striking out nine. Joe Allen was credited with a save.


Whitney was also 2 for 4 at plate. Daman Duhame was 3 for 3 at plate. Allen was 2 for 3 with a double. Braden Whitney added three RBIs. Jace Venner had a triple and two RBIs.


Hartford is 1-1.

Hartford Softball Nips Granville


Hartford trailed early but used a big third inning to take the lead, then held off Granville for an 11-10 victory in TCML softball action.


Granville led 2-0 in the firs, but Hartford scored five runs in the third to take the lead. The key blow in the inning was a grand slam home run from Madalyn Benson.


Hartford led 11-8 in the seventh, but Granville plated a pair of runs to close the gap. The tying run however was left stranded on second base.


Vanessa Muller was the winning pitcher for Hartford with seven strike outs.


Megan Decker had four strikeouts for Granville.


Benson was 2 for 2 at the plate for Hartford. Brynn Tyler, Sierra McDermott, Vanessa Muller and Jessica Muller each contributed a hit and RBI.


MaKenna McKnight was 2 for 4 with a triple and RBI. Courtney Ennis was 2 for 2 and drove in a run. Allie Gonzalez was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Jasmine Burch and Mackenzie Garrison both had a hit and RBI.


Hartford is 1-0, Granville is 0-2.
