Whitehall Comes Across the Border to Defeat Blue Devils


The Whitehall boys basketball team made the short trip over the Vermont border and made their visit a succesful one as they defeated Poultney 54-36 in a non-league contest.


The Railroaders came out of the gate quickly, opening up a 15-3 first quarter advantage. The Blue Devils played better from that point on by the opening stanza proved crucial. Whitehall led 30-15 at halftime.


Whitehall put the game away by outscoring the Blue Devils 18-13 in the third.


Cash Burgey paced Whitehall with a game-high 25 points. Jake Whiting chipped in nine points and Brandon Bakerian eight.


Donald Olden led Poultney with 14 points. Ryan Simons added eight.


Whitehall is 3-2. Poultney is 1-3.

Hartford Girls Pull Away from Salem


Hartford held an advantage in every quarter as they gradually pulled away from Salem in Adirondack League girls basketball to remain unbeaten in league play.


The Tanagers led 17-8 after the first quarter and 39-26 at the half.


Hartford scored 43 second half points to secure the victory.


Gabrielle McFarren led Harford with a career high 29 points as she continues to chase down the 1,000 point mark. Karlee Nims added 21 points. Alawnah Dunda also hit double-digits with 15 points for the Tanagers.


Amber Terry had 19 points for the Generals. Katy Sweenor added 10.

Burghers Edge Whitehall in OT


Defense ruled the day as points proved difficult to come by as Warrensburg edged Whitehall 29-28 in overtime in Adirondack League girls basketball.


Whitehall led 7-4 after a quarter and 11-8 at halftime.


Warrensburg led by two in the final seconds, but Samantha Howland scored for the Railroaders with 1.8 to play to force overtime.


The Burghers used a 6-5 advantage in the extra session to take the narrow win. Hope Sherman scored five of her team's six points in OT.


Sherman finished with a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Olivia Frasier added seven points.


Jayden Hughes led Whitehall with nine points on a trio of 3-pointers. Blake Bird and Madison Gould had six points each.


Warrensburg is 4-1, 4-2. Whitehall is 3-2, 5-2.
