Railroaders Roll Past Scots with Offense
The Whitehall girls basketball team under coach Boyd Hunt is well known for their defensive prowess. Last night in Argyle the Railroaders showed that they can score some points on occassion as well. Argyle hung with Whitehall early on, but the Railroaders got rolling in the second quarter and went on to roll over the Scots 65-36.
Madison Gould and Olivia Whiting shot well from behind the arc and Samantha Howland was her usual steady self as the Railroaders set up a potential rematch at Hartford in the Adirondack League semifinals on Thursday.
"It's scary. When we move the ball like we did here. We got and got some easy hoops too. That helps," Hunt said after the game. When you get three girls in double digits you're not going to lose many games."
It took awhile for Whitehall to break free from the Scots. The Railroaders led just 14-12 after a quarter. Whitehall put the defensive clamps on in the second, outscoring Argyle 19-6 to lead 33-18 at the half.
"They (Argyle) score points. Even against the good defensive teams they usually score. They really put their heads down and go to the basket. We actually played pretty good defense I thought, especially in the second quarter," Hunt said.
In the third, Whitehall used a 17-11 advantage to increase the margin of deficit to 50-29 and cruised the rest of the way.
Gould and Howland led Whitehall with 18 points each. Olivia Whiting added nine points on a trio of 3-pointers.
Lillianna Kingsley led Whitehall with 17 points.
Whitehall moves to 9-3, 14-3 and closes the regular season at home tonight against Salem.
