North Warren Rallies to Defeat Hartford


For the first 16 minutes it looked as though the #6 Hartford boys basketball team may knock off #3 North Warren. The Cougars however kicked it into gear in the second half as they rallied to defeat Hartford 57-48 in the Section II Class D quarterfinals at Stillwater High School on Sunday.


The win advances the Cougars to the semifinal round where they will take on #2 Northville at Cool Insuring Arena.


Hartford led 12-10 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 29-22 at halftime.


North Warren shifted the momentum in the third. The Cougars outscored the Tanagers 22-6 in the stanza to lead 44-35 heading to the fourth.


The teams played to a 13-13 deadlock in the fourth as North Warren held off a Hartford comeback attempt.


Sean Evans led North Warren with 17 points. Tommy Conway, Andrew Beadnell and Cooper Morehouse all contributed nine points each.


Ray Harrington paced Hartford with a game-high 22 points, including five 3-pointers. JP Lavin added eight and Logan Reynolds seven.


North Warren moves to 13-8 with the win. Hartford ends the season 11-11.

Argyle Punches Ticket to CIA


Top seeded Argyle punched their ticket to the Class D semifinals at Cool Insuring Arena with a 51-38 win over Heatly at Stillwater High School Sunday.


The Scots trailed 13-10 after the first quarter but tied the contest 21-21 at the break.


The third quarter proved decisive as Argyle outscored the Hornets 14-4 to open a 35-25 lead.


The Scots used a 16-13 fourth quarter to put the game away.


Hunter Ingram led Argyle with 18 points. Justin McWhorter picked up another double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.


Jared Montello added 10 rebounds. Ingram dished out five assists. Brandon Saunders added four assists.


Stetson Merritt had 23 points for Heatly.


Argyle,18-3, will meet #4 OESJ at Cool Insuring Arena on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Falcons End Fort Ann's Season


Fort Ann fell behind by double-digits and couldn't make up the ground as they lost to #2 Northville in the Class D quarterfinals at Stillwater High School to end their season.


The Falcons led 15-8 after the first and extended the margin to 27-15 at the half.


The Cardinals cut the deficit to 11 heading to the fourth, but Northville clinched the win with a 10-5 final stanza.


Dan VanNostrand and Jacob Frank led Northville with 13 points each.


Dylan Brown had nine points for Fort Ann.


The Cardinals finish the season 9-13.
