Border Country Sports Blog-February 18th

Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.

Border Country Sports Night At the Bennington Martens Game

Saturday evening the Bennington Martens will play their last home game of the season at Rutland's Heritage Family Field House, and it will be an exciting night for Border Country Sports. It will be Border Country Sports Night at the Bennington Martens game, and I would like to invite all fans of my blog to attend the Martens game to check out their product.

The Martens are our only local professional basketball team and play in the historic American Basketball Association.

Saturday's game will tip off at 6 p.m. Bennington will be taking on the Worcester Majors.

The team will be honoring all high school basketball players who earned the Border Country Sports Bennington Martens Player of the Week Award. Hopfeully some of our POTWs will be able to attend the contest.

It will also mark the debut of yours truly as the Martens Play by Play and PA Announcer. Next season I will be playing a much bigger role with the franchise, and am excited to et started in promoting this team.

The Martens will also honor Black History Month and Marten's players who have received offers to play overseas based on their play this season.

There will also be games for the fans and Raffles.

Come out Saturday night! It is going to be a blast!

Fair Haven Boys Rallies Past MSJ

It didn't look good for the Fair Haven boys basketball team after three quarters on Thursday night. Never fear Slaters fans. You have Sawyer Ramey. The flashy junior guard led a fourth quarter rally as Fair Haven came back to defeat MSJ 61-50 in SVL boys basketball.

MSJ won the first meeting between the two teams, and heading to the final eight minutes looked like they would do it again. However, Ramey and the Slaters were not about to let that hapen. Especially in their building. The Mounties led by nine heading into the stanza, but Ramey poured in 22 points in the quarter as Fair Haven took the lead and never let it go.

Ramey finished the night with 33 points for the Slaters.

Fair Haven came out of the gate quickly, but MSJ led 22-19 at the half.

The Mounties extended the lead to 42-33 after three quarters before Fair Haven outscored them 28-9 down the stretch.

Sam Barber added 11 points for Fair Haven. Kyle James had seven and Phil Bean had six.

Owen Traynor led MSJ with 15 points. Jake Williams and Dezmond Krakowka had 10 points each for the Mounties.

Fair Haven improved to 13-4. MSJ is 13-3.

Blue Devils Top Westside at Capman Court

West Rutland gace Poultney a battle, but the Blue Devils were able to get the job done as they topped the Golden Horde 39-23 in a low-scoring affait at Capman Court.

Poultney led 17-9 at halftime and increased the lead in the second half. The Blue Devils used a 15-0 run run to open up a 32-9 lead.

Marcus Lewis led Poultney with 11 points. Ryan Simons contributed nine and Mason Boudreau netted eight.

Garrett Owens led West Rutland with nine points.

Poultney is now 7-11. West Rutland is 0-18.
