Border Country Sports Blog-December 9th

Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.

Hartford Routs Argyle to Stay Perfect

The Hartford girls basketball team has gotten off to a quick start this season, rolling over three non-league opponents. Surely local rival and annual Adirondack League contender Argyle would give the Tanagers a test in their home gym. It looks like Hartford missed the memo.

Coach Jason Johnson's team jumped out a big early lead and went on to defeat Argyle 66-34 to remain perfect on the early season.

Hartford came out on fire, fashioning a 21-7 first quarter lead. The Tanagers then outscored Argyle 11-4 in the second to increase their advantage to 32-11.

Argyle played better in the third, but despite winning the quarter 12-11 they could not cut into the first half deficit.

A 22-11 fourth quarter by Hartford left no doubt about the result of this one.

Karlee Nims continued to close in on the 1,000 career point mark with a 26 point effort for the Tanagers. Gabbie McFarren added 12. Izzy French , Caillyn Severence, and Reaghan Liebig contributed eight points each.

Kylee Humiston led Argyle with 17 points.

Hartford is now 1-0, 4-0. Argyle is 0-1, 1-1.

The Cougars stayed within striking distance in the third, but a 17-9 fourth quarter put the game away for the Railroaders.

Madison Gould paced Whitehall with 15 points. Ashlyn Groesbeck added 10 points.
