Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.

Covid, Flying Forts Can't Stop Granville in Opener

Due to Covid-19 the Granville boys basketball team had not practiced since Thanksgving time. Add to that a new head coach and several new faces on the roster and one might think the season opener may not go so well. Evidently no one told the Golden Horde.

Granville jumped out to a commanding first quarter lead and placed five players in double-digits as they defeated Fort Edward 82-39 in an Adirondack League contest.

"The guys played awesome. We haven't practiced since the Friday after Thanksgiving," Granville coach Justin Nassivera said. "It's been tough, but we had a walk-through today after school and the guys were really focused."

The Golden Horde opened the game on a 9-2 run, led by a 3-pointer from Logan Harrington and a pair of inside buckets from Alex Warrington.

After a Flying Forts hoop to make it 9-4, Granville ripped off a 17-2 run to lead 26-6 after a quarter and never were challenged. Granville led 46-16 at the half and 62-24 after three quarters.

Caleb Nelson led Granville with 19 points. Warrington added 13, and Logan Harrington 11. Matthew Barlow and Nathan Rathbun chipped in 10 points each. Alex Torres had eight points and seven boards.

Nelson also had nine rebounds and six assists. Warrington collected eight boards. Harrington handed out five assists.

Fort Edward got 14 points from Ashton Sullivan and 10 from Noah Duket.

"I thought they worked their tails off. We moved the ball well on offense. Were scrappy on defense. I couldn't be happier right now," Nassivera added.

Granville is 1-0, 1-0. Fort Edward is 0-1, 1-2.

Scots Hold Off Hartford in the Fourth Quarter

Argyle used a big fourth quarter to fend off a Hartford comeback as the Scots topped the Tanagers 67-53 in an Adirondack League boys basketball match up.

Argyle looked like they might cruise early on. The Scots led 25-8 after the first quarter. Hartford however got things rolling in the second as they outscored Argyle 20-8 to puul within 33-28 at the half.

The Tanagers used a 17-14 third to make it a two point game heading to the final stanza, but a 19-8 fourth quarter by the Scots proved to be the difference.

Argyle was led by Derek Liddle with 19 points. Brandon Sanders added 16. Justin McWhorter had 14 and Hunter Ingram 11.

Ray Harrington paced Hartford with 25 points. Austin Wells added 10 and Drake Stewart eight.

Argyle is 1-0, 2-0. Hartford is 0-1, 2-2.
