Hoosick Falls Rolls Over Golden Horde in Season Opener

The Granville girls basketball team could not have picked a more challenging opponent to open the season against. Hoosick Falls out of the Wasaren League was loaded with weapons, using that balanced attack to roll over Granville 85-42 in a non-league game.

Hoosick Falls jumped out to a 26-12 lead after the first quarter and used a 19-6 second quarter to edge to put the game out of reach.

The Panthers shredded the Golden Horde man to man defense early on, getting easy inside buckets. When Granville made the switch to a zone defense the Panthers knocked down a barrage of 3-pointers.

Despite the large deficit, scoring 42 points against a talented Hoosick Falls team gives Granville coach Katie Fredette hope heading into Adirondack League play.

"Knowing that we put 42 points on the board, I'm really happy with that," Fredette said. "Especially coming off of the Covid year. I tell them everyone is a shooter. No matter what age you are, or what position you are, you're a shooter."

Amber MacNeil led Hoosick Falls with 18 points. Freshman Ava Case added 17 points and Marly McLellan 11.

Lilly Strout had 13 points for the Golden Horde. Aspen Williams chipped in 10 points.

Hoosick Falls is 1-0. Granville is 0-1.

Hartford led 21-6 after a quarter and used a 16-9 second quarter to lead 37-15 at the half.

The Tanagers outscored the Hornets 24- 3 in the third quarter to extened the lead to 61-18.
