Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.


Tanagers Edge Greenwich in Season Opener


The Hartford boys basketball team used a big fourth quarter to rally from a 12 point deficit to edge Greeniwch 71-70 in a non-league contest at the Ella Colvin Gymnasium.


Logan Reynolds sunk a free throw in the final seconds to give the Tanagers the win.


Hartford trailed by 11 at the half and 12 heading to the fourth, but outscored the Witches 27-14 in the final stanza on the strength of a 2-3 trapping zone defense.


Reynolds and JP Lavin paced the Tanagers with 17 points each. Ray Harrington added 15 points.


Lavin had a double-double with 10 rebounds. Harrington dished out eight assists.


Jesse Kuzmich led the Witches with 23 points. Jacob Zinn and Jayden Hughes added 11 apiece.


Hartford is 1-0. Greeniwch is 0-1.

Salem Girls Roll Over Waterford in Opener


Salem opened up a 12 point lead in the first quarter and led by 20 at the half as they opened the season with a 62-37 win over Waterford in non-league girls basketball.


The Generals led 19-7 after a quarter and 37-17 at halftime.


Amber Terry had an outstanding game for Salem with 29 points. MaryKate McPhee added 14 for the Generals.


Annabelle Dean pulled down eight boards. Alyssa Vandercar added seven.
