Whitehall Uses Huge fifth inning to Rally Past Hartford


Often times in small school high school baseball on days when neithers team's ace pitcher is available it comes down to which team can piece togther enough success on the hill to get the job done. That was the case at Bob Wilkins Field in Hartford Tuesday as Whitehall rallied from an early 7-2 deficit to defeat Hartford-Fort Edward 17-12 in an Adirondack League contest.


Trailing 10-9 Whitehall exploded for eight runs in the fifth to take control and held off the TanaForts the rest of the game.


"That's what we are going to have to do when oue one is not throwing. We're going to have to piece together each game to make it work and hopefully outscore them," Whitehall coach Keith Redmond said.


Hartford-Fort Edward broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the top of the third, but the Railroaders scored three of their own on the bottom of the frame to make it 7-5.


Down 17-10 the TanaForts scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but Whitehall was able to shut the door.


Brandon Bakerian was 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Railroaders, including a big triple in the decisive fifth. Landon Rozell was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. CJ Monty was 2 for 5 with three RBIs.


Rozell was granted the win with stellar relief work in the fifth. Tyler Brooks pitched the first three innings then came back on to pitch 1 1/3 in the in the sixth and seventh, striking out six.


Drake Stewart was 2 for 5 with four RBIs for HFE. Ed Amell doubled. Bryce Tyler and Ayden Swears also had hits for the TanaForts. Swears had three RBIs.


Whitehall is 2-0, 2-0. Hartford-Fort Edward is 1-1, 1-1.

Granville Softball Rallies Past Tomahawks


The Granville softball squad lost a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh, them rallied in the bottom of the frame to claim a hard-fought 9-8 victory over Corinth in an Adirondack League game at Ken Burch Field.


The Golden Horde led 5-0 after three and 5-2 in the seventh. Corinth however scored six runs in the seventh to nab an 8-5 advantage.


Gramvlle refused to fold. The Golden Horde scored four runs in their final at bat to win their second straght to open the seaosn.


Lauren Bascom picked up the win in the circle, giving up five hits and striking out 11.


Jordan Chadwick led the way at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a triple. Rachel Beaver also tripled, while Bascom, Haylie Barber and Lilly Strout all doubled.


Chloe Manning was 3 for 4 for the Tomahawks. Tegan Grady doubled and had seven strike outs in the circle.


Granville is 2-0, 2-0. Corinth is 0-2, 0-2.

Whitehall Rolls Over Schuylerville in Softball


The Whitehall softball team seems to be hitting their peak early. After knocking off Queensbury the Ralroaders disposed of another Foothills Council opponent, rolling over Schuylerville 18-1 in a non-league contest.


Madison Gould flexed her muscles as she was dominant in the circle. Gould spun a one-hitter and recorded 15 Ks against the Black Horses.


Whitehall pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon.


Gould was 4 for 5 with a double, triple and four RBIs. Olivia Whiting continued her hot start to the year, going 2 for 4 with an RBI.


Riley Keefer had the only hit for Schuylerville.


Whitehall is 3-0. Schuylerville is 0-1.

Granville Wins Second in a Row


The Granville baseball team cruised to their second consecutive win to open the season, defeating Corinth 11-1 in an ADK matchup at Ken Burch Field.


The Golden Horde put this one away early, scoring five runs in the first and two more in the second to lead 7-0 and never looked back.


The runs were more than enough for starting pitcher Cody Nelson who earned the win on the bump, scattering six hits.


Caleb Nelson went 3 for 3 at the plate for the Golden Horde. Avery Flory was 3 for 3 and drove in two runs. Brent Perry celebrated his birthday with two hits and two RBIs.


Granville is 2-0, 2-0. Corinth is 0-2, 0-2.
