Granville Softball Blanks Fort Ann in Opener
Granville gradually pulled away as they blanked Fort Ann 9-0 in Adirondack League softball. It was the opening game of the season both teams.
Granville scored single runs in the first three innings, added another in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Lauren Bascom earned the win in the circle, giving up just three hits and striking out 11. Bascom pitched out of a pair of bases loaded jams to preserve the shutout.
"Staying focused I think is key, and then not getting in my head and stuff works the best, and calling the right pitches," Bascom said.
The job of calling those pitches falls to catcher Haylie Barber.
"It felt good," Barber said abiut being behnd the plate to start the season. We kind of do it year round so it's normal. But it was nice to be back with my team."
Barber was 2 for 4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Bascom, Megan Hover, Jordan Chadwick, and Hannah Ingleston also smacked doubles for the Golden Horde.
Maddie Freeburn doubled for Fort Ann.
Granville is 1-0. Fort Ann is 0-1.

Hartford-Fort Edward Wins Over Corinth With Ninth Inning Walkoff.
The Hartford-Fort Edward softball team opened the season in dramatic fashion, edging Corinth 10-9 with a walkoff sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth.
Hartford-Fort Edward trailed 6-1 early, but scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innngs. In the ninth Ava Nadeau hit a sac fly to score Olivia Lindridge to hand her team the win.
Raeghan Liebig had a huge game for HFE. Liebig was 4 for 4 at the plate and earned the win in the circle with 11 strikeouts.
Nadeau was 3 for 4 with a pair of triples. Lindridge doubled.
Olivia Mann was 4 for 5 with a double and two triples for the Tomahawks. Tegan Grady was 2 for 4.
Hartford-Fort Edward is 0-1. Cornth is 0-2.

Whitehall Baseball Defeats Burghers on the Road
The Whitehall baseball team began the season with a win, topping Warrensburg 12-4 in ADK play.
Brandon Bakerian went four innings on the bump to earn the win. Bakerian recorded 10 strikeouts.
Bakerian was also hot at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a home run, triple and four RBIs. Landon Rozell was 2 for 4 for the Railroaders.
Jake Whiting closed out the game on the mound, strikng out four in three innings of work.
Landon Stevens and Preston Bakerian doubled for Whitehall.
Caleb Remington was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for Warrensburg.
Whitehall is 1-0. Warrensburg is 0-1.

Granville Baseball Shuts Out Cardinals at East Field
A quick start propelled Granville to a strong opening contest for the season as the Golden Horde shut out Fort Ann 13-0 at East Field in Glens Falls, home of the Glens Falls Dragons.
Granville plated six runs in the first and led 8-0 after three innings.
Caleb Nelson earned the win on the mound, giving up just three hits and striking out seven in six innings of work. Nelson was also 3 for 3 at the plate.
Logan Harrington was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Nate Rathbun was also 2 for 4. Alex Torres doubled for the Golden Horde.
Ryan Blondin had a hit for Fort Ann.
Granville is 1-0. Fort Ann is 0-1.

Gould Nearly Perfect as Railroaders Roll Over Burghers
Madison Gould was just short of a perfect game and had a strong game at the plate as Whitehall cruised past Warrensburg 13-0 in Adirondack League softball.
Gould had a perfect game going into the sixth inning. She gave up just two hits while striking out 12. Gould was also 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run.
Olivia Whiting was 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Railroaders. Vinna Jensen tripled and drove in two runs. Blake Bird was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs.
Leigha Barnaby tripled for the Burghers.
Whitehall is 2-0. Warrensburg is 1-1.
