Nelson Nearly Misses No-Hitter for Granville


Caleb Nelson came within a whisker of a no-hitter as Granville fought off Hartford-Fort Edward in Adirondack League baseball at Bob Wilkins Field.


Nelson didn't give up a hit until the bottom of the seventh. The junior went the distance, striking out 13 and not allowing a walk.


We have been strong on the hill and in the field. Our pitchers have been great on the bump and the boys have really played great defense behind them," Granville coach Cory Burton said. "I love that everyone of them is willing to get dirty."


Granville plated a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Brent Perry.


Alex Torres blasted a home run in the seventh to increase the Golden Horde lead, and it was all Nelson needed.


Ed Amell had a strong game for the TanaForts. Amell scattered five hits on the bump and struckout 12.


Bryce Tyler had the only hit for Hartford-Fort Edward.


Nelson added two hits for Granville. Conner Farrell also singled.


Granville is now 6-0, 6-1.

Warriors Defeat Salem in Battle of ADK Unbeatens


Something had to give. With four Adirondack League softball teams entering the week unbeaten head to head to matchups were eventually going to tell the story. Yesterday Lake George fired the first shot as they defeated Salem 14-3 in a battle of ADK unbeatens.


Lake George jumpe out to a 4-0 lead in the first and led 4-2 heading to the bottom of the fourth.


The fourth proved decisive as the Warriors exploded for seven runs to pull away from the Generals.


Lake George added three runs in the sixth to add a little bit of insurance.


Shannon Starratt earned the win in the circle. Starratt and Makena Barber combined on a three-hitter.


Starratt also led the Warriors at the plate. Starratt was 5 for 5 with a three-run homer, two-run double and seven RBIs.


Olivia Gates and Grace York both contributed two hits.


Lake George is 6-0, 7-1. Salem is 5-1, 7-1.

Whitehall Rolls Past Corinth in Softball


Whitehall stayed unbeaten in Adirondack League softball as they rolled past Corinth 21-0 on Wednesday afternoon.


The Railroaders scored four runs in the first and two in the second to take an early 6-0 lead.


Whitehall scored 10 in the third to blow the game open on a cold, windy day. They added five more in the fourth to finish off the Tomahawks via the run rule.


Madi Gould tossed a one-hitter for Whitehall to pick up the pitchng win.


Gould was 3for 4 at the plate with two home runs, a double and six RBIs.


Ava Ruby was 3 for 4 for the Railroaders. Bryadee Benjamin added three hits, two doubles and five RBIs. Brooke Benjamin and Chloe Paddock both chipped in two hits.


Whitehall is 4-0, 6-1. Corinth is 0-5, 1-6.

Lake George Hands Salem-Cambridge First League Loss


In another matchup of ADK unbeatens Lake George stayed perfect with a 13-3 baseball win over Salem-Cambridge on Wednesday afternoon.


Lake George was clinging to a 4-3 lead after three innings, but the Warriors scored five in the fourth and four in the sixth to pull away from the Generals.


Luke Sheldon fired a three-hitter to earn the win on the bump for the Warriors.


Brendan Lamby was 4 for 5 at the plate with three RBIs. Bordy McCabe, Max Dickinson and Angelo Bergman had two each. JJ Salmon drove in three runs.


Connor Chilson had all three RBIs for the Generals.


Lake George is now 6-0, 7-0. Salem-Cambridge is 5-1, 6-2.
