Border Country Sports Blog-April 27th

Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.

The Poultney softball team was on the verge of avenging a loss to West Rutland earlier in the season, but the Golden Horde rallied to defeat the Blue Devils 14-10 in SVL softball Thursday.

West Rutland won the initial meeting 18-6 via the mercy rule, but the Blue Devils came to play on their home diamond and used their offense and the sharp pitching of Kait DeBonis to open up a lead.

Poultney led 10-7 going to the top of the seventh, but Westside scored seven runs in their final at bat to grab the lead. The Golden Horde were reportedly helped by Poultney errors.

Peyton Guay was again a key factor for the Golden Horde. Guay was the winning pitcher with 14 Ks. Guay also led Westside at the plate with multiple hits.

The Blue Devils did manage to pound out 13 hits against Guay, but it turned out to be not quite enough.

Emily Handley and Bella Mack were both 3 for 4 for Poultney. Laura Winter contributed two hits.

DeBonis spun a 5-hitter with six strikeouts for the Blue Devils.

Otters Edge Fair Haven in Thriller

Otter Valley raced out to a commanding lead and then held off a hard-charging Fair Haven squad, hanging on for a dramatic 7-6 win in SVL baeball.

The Otters led 7-0 but the Slaters plated six runs in the sixth to make it a thriller.

The Otters took a 1-0 lead in the first and scored five in the third to open a 6-0 lead. Otter Valley tacked on another run in the fifth before Fair Haven rallied.

Jordan Beayon, Ethan Blow, Luca Polli and Ben Adams had key hit in the inning for Otter Valley.

Fair Haven scored six runs in the sixth to slice the deficit to 7-6 but a huge catch from second basemen robbed the Slaters of a couple of potential runs.

Joe Buxton had an RBI double for the Slaters. Sawyer Ramey added an RBI single.

Andy McEnerny earned the win on the bump for the Otters. Caleb Whitney picked up the save.

Otter Valley is now 2-4.Fair Haven is 2-2.

Otters Cruise Past Slaters in Softball

Otter Valley got a huge game from Riley Keith as they rolled past Fair Haven 10-2 in SVL softball.

Keith got the job done both in the circle and at the plate. Keith struck out19 Slaters batters in recording the win. She also smacked her first career home run.

The Otters jumped out to a 5-0 lead and that turned out to be all that Keith needed.

Otter Valley got three hits each from Ryleigh LaPorte, Alice Kieth and Sierra Cormany. Marissa Connors added a pair of hits.

Elizabeth Munger and Maddie Egan both tagged doubles for Fair Haven.
