Border Country Sports Blog-April 25th
Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.
Today is Monday, and of course that means it is time for the Monday Morning Hot List, a look at who was "Hot" this week in local high school sports. The list is a little thin this week as many teams didn't play because their schools were on Spting Break, but we still were able to find some strong performances.
-I will begin with the Salem softball team who stayed hot this week. The Generals are 5-0 on the season after they nipped Vermont power Brattleboro 1-0 in the opening round of the Charlie Weeden Memorial Tournament. Pitcher Kayla McCauliffe remained unbeaten at 4-0 in the circle, firing a two-hitter and striking out 12.
-Speaking of Salem, the Salem-Cambridge baseball team topped Argyle 18-8 this week to remain perfect at 4-0 in the ADK. Lucas Martindale earned the pitchng win. Jeb Gulley, Jackson Thomas and Stephen Yakubec had two hits each.
-Last Monday Poultney defeated rival Fair Haven 29-12 in softball. Emily Handley had a huge day for the Blue Devils. Handley went 3 for 6 at the plate and blasted a grand slam home run.
-Peyton Guay of West Rutland continues to be one of the hottest players in the area to start the softball season. In a 25-0 win over White River Valley Guay spun a three-hitter in the circle with 10 Ks. She also had three hits at the plate, including two doubles.
-Hartford-Fort Edward baseball players Drake Stewart and Bryce Tyler had an outstanding performance on the bump in the TanaFort's 7-0 win over Berne-Knox. The duo combined for a two-hit shutout and 17 Ks. Stewart pitched a no-hitter for four innings with 12 Ks. Tyler pitched the final three innings, giving up just two hits and striking out five. Tyler was also 2 for 3 at the plate with a double.
