Border Country Sports Blog-April 11

Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Blog, I'm Keith Harrington.


Today it's the return of the segment I call the Border Country Sports Monday Morning Hot List. A look at who was "Hot this week in high school sports.


-Our first player to receive recognition this week is Shannon Starratt of Lake George softball. In a win over Corinth last week Starratt was 4 for 5 at the plate with a pair of home runs. Staratt finished the game with five RBIs. it was the second two homer game of the young season for Starratt.


-Speaking of the Wariors, Mollie Johnson also had a huge game against Corinth. Johnson was also 4 for 5 in the contest against Corinth with five RBIs and a home run.


-Whitehall's Madison Gould was expected to be one of the best softball players in the area this year as she is off to a fantastic start in the circle and at the plate. Against Warrensburg last week Gould just missed a perfect game in the circle. Gould pitched a two-hitter with 12 Ks. She was also 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run. In a win over Schuylerville Gould pitched a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts.


-Caleb Nelson has been the catalyst in the Granville baseball team's fast start to the season. Against Glens Falls Nelson was 3 for 3 at the plate and earned the win on the bump. Nelson earned his second win on the bump on Friday against Hadley-Luzerne and also added a couple of more hits to his week. Nelson was also 3 for 3 at the plate in a win over Corinth.


-Brandon Bakerian is off to a nice campaign for the Whitehall baseball team. Against Warrensburg Bakerian was the winning pitcher with 10 Ks and smacked a home run and a triple. Against HFE Bakerian was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs.


-It was a solid week for Hartford-Fort Edward softball freshman Ava Nadeau. In a win over Corinth Nadeau was 3 for 4 and had a walk-off RBI sac fly to lift HFE over Corinth. Against Whitehall Nadeau nailed a grand slam home run.


-The Granville softball team is off to a fast start quick start to the year and Lauren Bascom has been solid in the circle. Bascom earned the pitching win against Corinth with 11 strikeout. Bascom also earned the win against Fort Ann with a 9-0 shutout and 11 Ks.
