Warrensburg Defeats Salem for TCML Softball Title
Warrensburg won their first ever TCML softball title Thursday night, defeating Salem 18-13.
The Burghers used the long ball to propel them to the win. Hope Sherman and Maddie Monahan both went deep to pace Warrensburg.
Warrensburg jumped out to a 5-1 lead after an inning but Salem continued to battle. Meaghon McKinney’s 3-run single in the first helped give the Burghers the early advantage.
A solo home run by Hope Sherman and a double by her sister Karla Sherman in the third, and doubles by Maddie Monahan and Leigha Barnaby in the fourth, extended the Warrensburg lead to 11-2.
Salem pulled to within 11-8 with a six-run effort in the bottom of the fourth. Riley Gallagher had a bases clearing double in the frame.
A homer by Monahan made it 14-8 Burghers.
Warrensburg scored a run in the sixth and three in the seventh to put it away.
Jane Trowbridge earned the win in the circle with 5 strikeouts. Bella Eastman struck out five for Salem.
Sherman and Maddie Goodspeed each had three hits for the Burgers.
Riley Gallagher had two doubles and three RBIs for Salem. Eastman was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. Me
Warrensburg finishes 9-4. Salem ends the season 10-3.
TCML Baseball Final Tonight
The Tri-County Middle League championship game will be contsted tonight. Warrensburg will take on Hartford at Bob Wilkins Field in Hartford.
Warrensburg has been the team to beat all season. The Burghers have a 14-1 mark and nipped Hudson Falls 8-7 in the Western Division championship game.
Hartford won the Eastern Division title with a 23-11 win over Whitehall. Whitehall had swept the Tanagers during the season. Hartford suffered some close losses early in the season but peaked at the right time. The Tanagers are 6-6-1 on the season.
Game time at Bob Wilkins Field is 5:30 p.m.
